What is the UniversityGo! Programme?

UniversityGo! is a multi-partner programme working with young people in years 7-9, in Local Authority Care, to support their educational progression and help them recognise their potential. Students have access to the programme for a cycle of three years, joining at the start of Year 7 and finishing at the end of Year 9. UniversityGo! focuses on giving young people an insight into university life, supporting identified students to develop resilience, self-confidence and efficacy in their education, engaging students in types of learning that they may not experience through school, and supporting our cohort to build essential skills such as team work, communication and research.

The programme is split into two different types of provision, 1 to 1 mentoring with a trained student ambassador currently studying at university and on campus academic taster sessions and masterclasses giving students an opportunity to meet others on the programme whilst learning new skills and gaining exposure to Higher Education.

Progression Framework Model

Students joining us in Year 7 take part in sessions designed to introduce them to Higher Education and other pathways. The aim is to get students thinking about the basics... What is a University? What do they look like?

Once students move into Year 8 the framework is designed to build and develop the knowledge students have gained in Year 7 and to start thinking about... Why do people go to University or choose a different pathway? Do all universities look the same?

In the students' final year on the programme we begin to prepare them for their next steps and start to consolidate some of the learning they have done with us over the three years on the programme. We look at alternative pathways, linking careers to the curriculum and ask... What else is out there for me if I don't want to go to University?
